A hill with wide views
The Hermitage of Santo Domingo is located on the top of a hill where remains have been found that go from the Neolithic to the Roman period. And it is not surprising, because from there it dominates a wide landscape. Views that include the Pitillas Lagoon, whose northern end, the least visited, will take you along this path.
The hermitage of Santo Domingo is located on the top of a hill, near the Laguna de Pitillas and within a large area formerly known as Sabasan. Archaeological remains from different periods have been found on this hill, from Neolithic to Roman times, which shows that this place has been important in the area for centuries. The present hermitage dates from the 17th century, and the pilgrimage from Pitillas takes place on the first Saturday in May, coinciding with the feast of San Gregorio Ostiense. On this hiking route we will visit both the hermitage of Santo Domingo and the north of the Laguna de Pitillas, its lesser-known part. From the top of the hill where the chapel is located we can enjoy excellent panoramic views of the surroundings and the lagoon. It is a route without technical difficulty and suitable for everyone. The route leaves Pitillas along the road to Ujué and continues eastwards for about 3 km along comfortable tracks between fields. After ascending to the hermitage, the route continues south until it reaches the foothills of the Laguna. There it turns west and returns to Pitillas directly along the Mostrakas path.
