MIDDLE ZONE FOOTPATH NETWORK PROJECT: ERDIALDEA MIDDLE ZONE ON FOOT

In 2020 we began to forge what today is this Network of Trails. Several town councils in the Central Zone joined forces to offer their landscapes and environments to those who wanted to walk through them. After several preparatory meetings and a detailed technical project, the Navarra Middle Zone Local Action Group applied for funding from the Participatory Local Development Strategy: Local Action Groups of the RDP 2014-2020.
The cost of the project amounts to 167,230.10 euros, and has had a grant of 137,177.93 euros co-financed 65% by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and 35% by the Government of Navarra under the Local Development Strategies Participated in the Middle Zone (Measure 19 of the PDR Navarra 2014-2020).
The non-subsidised part of this project has been paid for by the participating municipalities: Artajona, Beire, Berbinzana, Biurrun-Olcoz, Carcastillo, Caparroso, Larraga, Leoz/Leotz, Mendigorria, Miranda de Arga, Mélida, Murillo el Fruto, Olite/Erriberri, Olóriz/Oloritz, Orísoain, Pitillas, Pueyo/Puiu, Santacara, San Martín de Unx, Tafalla, Tiebas-Muruarte de Reta, Unzué/Untzue, Ujué and Puente la Reina/Gares.
Our territory is surrounded by mountain ranges (El Perdón, Alaiz, Izco, Lokiz, Urbasa, Andía and Ujué) on all sides except for the south, where we find the Bardenas Reales, a protected, semi-desert and unpopulated natural area of great scenic, natural and geological wealth. Three great rivers form the backbone of the geography of our area: the Arga in the western part, the Cidacos in the central part and the Aragón. We are an area of transition from all areas of study, and this occurrence denominates us as the Middle Zone of Navarre. All this territory is what we offer for the enjoyment of its unique landscapes, and very suitable for the practice of hiking.
The Local Action Group of the Central Zone of Navarre was set up in 2001 as an Autonomous Body of the Central Zone Development Consortium, and its aim is to promote the development of the region, including the channeling and management of aid from different administrations as well as Community initiatives.
In addition to the local entities belonging to the Consortium, it is made up of Associations, Organizations, Foundations and Private Non-Profit Entities, which are particularly relevant in the Middle Zone of Navarre. It works for the sustainable development of its region through the promotion of economic activity and the generation of employment, based on endogenous strengths and aligned with the strategy of intelligent specialization and the Rural Development Plan of Navarre, thus favoring the quality of life and well-being of those who live there.
