Route to emblematic places around Tafalla
The Beratxa Tower, the dolmen of Candaraiz and the viewpoint of the Juncal Lagoon are three emblematic places in the surroundings of Tafalla that you can visit on this route, long but with little slope, ideal for hiking enthusiasts.
The landscape to the west of Tafalla will surprise you. What at first sight seems to be just farmland hides unique spots and places, with small lakes, wooded areas and places of historical interest, such as the landmarks that make up this route. The old Carlist fusillade fort known as Torre Beratxa is one of the most interesting points of the route, a reference for the inhabitants of the area. It was used during the Carlist wars to protect the road and as a signalling center. Less known is the dolmen of Candaraiz, of which a slab facing southeast remains and in which bone remains were found. We will also pass by the Laguna del Juncal, the most important of the area, because there are many other ponds scattered throughout the territory that in summer may disappear. The lagoon serves as a refuge for birds, reptiles and amphibians, discreet animals except for the noisy frogs, which we will hear if we approach carefully to its shores. These are not the only interesting places on the route: the wooded areas, where there are dovecotes from where the "pasa" pigeons are hunted in autumn, the quarry of Ros or the lagoon of Romerales, somewhat smaller than that of El Juncal, are also milestones on this route.
