Between the medieval Puente La Reina and the riverside woods of the Arga River
Puente la Reina is one of the milestones on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, a medieval town on the banks of the Arga River. We suggest a circular route to get to know the southern part of the municipality, walk through the riverside woods and visit natural enclaves and return to the town along the spectacular Calle Mayor (Main Street).
This route allows you to discover the southern part of the municipality of Puente la Reina, with a simple route although longer than the Los Fuertes route. Like the latter, it is a circular route that can be walked in both directions, although it is described below in a counter-clockwise direction. The first half of the route runs along the left bank of the Arga River and its riverside forest. After passing by the old power station and mill, the path heads towards the Campollano orchard area on a practically flat terrain. A 2 km stretch of the route allows you to discover the Rincón de Aizpea, a beautiful natural spot in the meander of the Arga River. The route continues along the riverbank and passes the Ćrbol Gordo, an imposing poplar tree, before reaching the MendigorrĆa road. After crossing it, the route crosses a large area known as Nekeas, sharing part of its route with the CaƱada Real Milagro-Aezkoa. At the Portillo de Nekeas the descent to Puente la Reina begins, where the route ends with a walk along its spectacular Calle Mayor (Main Street).
