Among palaces, vineyards, wineries and wines
Take in a palace, stroll through vineyards and finish the route enjoying one of the most beautiful villages in Navarre, and if you wish with a good glass of wine. Olite and its vineyards are always worth a visit.
The majestic Palace of the Kings of Navarre in Olite, or Royal Palace, is one of the most important tourist attractions in Navarre. But Olite has also been well known since ancient times for being the cradle of the best wines in the region and home to some of the most important wineries in Navarre, as well as for being the headquarters of the main wine institutions in Navarre, such as the Wine Guild, the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarre and the Navarre Viticulture Station (EVENA). The Vineyards Route is a short walking route that completes the visit to the palace and the wineries with a stroll through the vineyards that surround the town. This simple walk is most interesting in the summer and autumn months, when the vines are at their most colorful. From the gate of the Royal Palace, the route heads towards the Castejón - Alsasua railway line, which must be crossed underneath by means of an underpass. Once on the other side, the route turns right and continues until it passes under the road to San MartÃn de Unx. After this begins the loop that runs through the vineyards of the area known as La Huerta and a stretch of the fertile banks of the River Cidacos. The return is made parallel to the railway track up to the aforementioned road, from where you return along the same route as on the outward journey.
